Thriving in a Noisy Workplace

We’re all different when it comes to finding focus in a noisy workplace. Some folks enjoy the stimulation of open-plan offices, thriving on the energy of collaboration. Others, however, dread the constant buzz and much prefer the calm of working from their home office.

Once you recognize which environment helps you stay focused, it becomes easier to shape your working conditions to suit your preferences. Sure, earplugs can be a lifesaver when you can’t do much about surrounding noise—though they might not always be socially accepted. A pair of noise-canceling headphones is a solid alternative. Not only do these help block distractions, but you can also use them to play your favorite music and get into the flow.

After you’ve found your perfect setup, remember to strike a balance in your interactions. Aim for periods when you’re open and accessible to colleagues. You don’t want to be seen as unsociable just because you’ve mastered your personal tricks for surviving bustling office days.
